We are two people of kindred spirit who share a passion for travel, food and outdoors. Ever since we met we have talked about how much we wish we had traveled in college with study abroad programs or after graduating from college. We both love our jobs but always felt a need to travel more before accomplishing other career and life goals. So we quit our jobs in Jan 2015 to travel around the world for 4 months. We traveled to 10 countries and 38 destinations but collected countless memories and experiences.

Sunny is a software engineer and Priyanka is a pharmacist. Sunny has an Indian passport and Priyanka carries a US passport. We both grew up in India but have lived the past 13 years of our adult lives in the US. We are a husband and wife team, settled in Seattle. Just like most working professionals, we struggled to find time off from work to travel but in January 2015 we finally took the decision to step out of our comfort zone and explore some parts of the world. After going back and forth for almost 2 years on making an extended travel plan, we put a 4-month itinerary together including Asia, Europe and South America.

Rolf Potts put it best in his book Vagabonding

Most of us choose to live our life, rooting ourselves to a home or a career and using the future as a phony ritual that justifies the present. In this way we end up spending “The best part of our lives earning money in order to enjoy a questionable liberty during the least valuable part of it.” Vagabonding is about gaining the courage to loosen your grip and taking control of your circumstances instead of passively waiting for them to decide your fate.

Traveling is happiness for us. It gives us a broader perspective on the different ways people think. Every country and culture has its own way of living, beliefs and struggles. We aspire to immerse ourselves and absorb as much as possible. Frankly, this can be challenging sometimes but that’s part of the experience and we are up for it. We both also have an ongoing love affair with food which makes us even more excited about exploring a new destination. This world is amazing with beautiful people, the delicious food and picturesque spots of every destination being the icing to the cake.

For us, Travelstellar means to travel safe, travel hard to soak up the local feel of every place we visit, hence the blog name. We started the blog since we worry that our memories of our travels won’t do them justice if we fail to record them. Travelstellar will not only help us reflect back on our adventures and experiences but also hopefully help others looking for recommendations on destinations that we’ve traveled to.
